The super robust powder coating of our C40 Mk4 ‘Copper Mountain’ does just the same, and we love the subtle, rich, and sparkly colour.

The iconic Comandante C40 is a robust, high performance grinder with an advanced and pioneering burr set: Nitro Blade. And the new Mk4 generation just got even better!
Thanks to some smart material science, reworked internals and the addition of a basically unbreakable polymer-glass Bean Jar, the Comandante C40 Mk4 offers improved workflow, weight, and durability.
The burr material and design is the proud result of years of dedicated research and development at Comandante’s onsite coffee lab. Nitro Blade is unique, using a high-alloyed, high-nitrogen stainless steel with a fine martensitic micro-crystal matrix.
Burr Geometry has been optimised to achieve excellent Bean Thruput with a reduced Crank Torque and at the same time deliver a refined Particle Size Distribution for best brewing results

The MK4: What’s new
The MK4 is the latest updated version of Comandante’s C40 nitro-blade hand grinder. In fact, the MK4 has been designed with complete backwards compatibility, so all parts are interchangeable with the MK3 model.
Fans of the MK3 will find a comforting familiarity in the design and performance while enjoying some amazing new features:
- New ‘indestructible’ polymer bean jar is lighter and more durable than the glass one (also included). The polymer jars are consistently weighted and so better to use in brewing competitions. They also boast heat insulation properties so can be used as a cup if you’re brewing coffee on the go!
- Freshly designed axel frame means there is now no chance of beans getting stuck in the engine frame
- Smaller box with improved protection and brand new manual; now completely made from sustainable materials.
All these changes make for improved workflow, weight, practicality and durability.

Design
Stainless steel is the right choice to build a robust and food safe coffee grinder. That is why not only the burr is made of stainless steel, but also the body, axle, crank and micro ball bearings. Comandante products are aluminium free.
Where polymers can be used to improve performance, Comandante uses BPA-free high-performance polymers that meet the strictest food-safety standards. These materials are engineered to endure years of heavy use.
Comandante loves natural wood. The solid oak handles, produced by friends in Germany’s Black Forest, are both wonderfully ergonomic and beautiful to look at thanks to oak’s unique grain structure.
Every C40 MK4 comes with one brown glass Bean Jar and one clear polymer-glass Bean Jar. Both are super easy to clean and hold around 40g of roasted coffee beans.
